The Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) said that they will be continuing the decided union actions – the vacation of department heads by May 9 and abstaining from 2011 G.C.E. A/L evaluation process, as the discussion with the Higher Education Minister last evening was not fruitful.
FUTA Chairman Dr. Nimal Dewasiri told Daily Mirror Online that although Minister S.B. Dissanayake agrees with their demands of a substantial salary hike for academics, they did not receive an effective response to their issues during the discussions.
“Minister Dissanayake told us to write to President Mahinda Rajapaksa through him, requesting an appointment to educate him on the issues the academics are facing. We are planning to resort to that move as well. However, we informed the Minister that we will still be continuing our union actions as scheduled,” Dr. Dewasiri added.
