Geetha demands action on Saudi maid

UPFA Galle District MP Geetha Kumarasinghe urged the government to take immediate steps to save the Sri Lankan maid in Saudi Arabia who is to be stoned to death on charge of adultery.

Ms Kumarasinghe questioned in Parliament yesterday as to what steps the government had taken to obtain a pardon on the maid.

Also, she questioned as to who got this woman to confess.

Commenting on the budget she said it was hard to think that the authorities had taken into consideration the needs and aspirations of women.

"Prices of essential goods should have been reduced in the budget," she said adding that the prices of essential goods were something which affected woman as housewives.(Yohan Perera)
