GMOA strike called off

Some 1,200 doctors attached to the National Hospital called off their strike today.The strike was in protest against the recent appointment of two members to the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and the government’s failure to provide the Disturbance, Availability and Transport (DAT) allowance to the doctors.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena issued a letter this morning removing Dr. Shirley Herath from the Sri Lanka Medical Council whileTreasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara will be meeting with the Government Medical Officers Association with regard to the DAT allowance.
