The work to rule campaign launched by officers of the Immigration and Emigration department at the Bandaranayke International Airport (BIA) yesterday has been called off following talks with the President, General Secretary of Authorization at the Department of Immigration and Emigration Gausal Koirala told Daily Mirror online.

Koirala said that the union leaders had met this afternoon with President Mahinda Rajapakse and relayed their three demands to him which the President had responded favorably to.

He said however that the President had only promised to take action following the upcoming Presidential Elections and that in light of this the Unions had decided to call off the go-slow strike action.

He said however that the employees of the Department of Immigration and Emigration may take similar Trade Union action again, if their demands were not met after the election.

Meanwhile officials at the Department of Immigration and Emigration say that passengers can now report to the airport three hours early, as is the norm.
