UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka today spoke of a crisis within the Government over the chief ministerial posts even before submitting nominations with some members lashing out at the former chief ministers.

“Issues over the chief ministerial postsare emerging within the SLFP. This is evident by the posters and cutouts displayed by some UPFA candidates. Some are urging for the appointment of a chief minister from Colombo while some others say he or she should be from Kalutara. There is a similar situation in the southern province as well,” he said.

Mr. Karunathilaka accused the Government of violating election laws by putting up posters and cutouts in public places while former UPFA provincial councilors had still not handed over their official vehicles.

“Former UPFA provincial councillors are using and abusing their official vehicles for their election campaigning even after the dissolution of theWestern and Southern Provincial Councils. Posters have been put up even on SLTB buses. Government politicians think that the people will vote for them despite whatever they do. But people in Western and Southern provinces are educated and they know very well that these politicians are only looking for their personal benefits instead of serving the people, Mr. karunathilaka said.( Ajith Siriwardana)
