The naming of a Colombo Road after popular radio personality the late Premakeerthi de Alwis as part of the Government’s campaign of slinging mud at the JVP boomeranged on the Government, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said today.

Mr. Silva said this in the wake of Mr. De Alwis’ widow Nirmala saying in public that the man who was responsible for the killing of her husband was holding a prominent post at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation today.

Ms. Alwis made this accusation point during Thursday’s ceremony to mark the naming of a road in Colombo 7 after her husband.

Mr. Silva said the government had planned an exhibition on the 1987/88 violence to sling mud at the JVP. He asked why the government was not targeting the UNP which also played a role during the violence in 1988 and in 1989.

Mr. Silva said Ms. De Alwis had met the JVP leaders some time ago and informed them that she did not accuse the party of killing her husband because the real killer was with the present regime.(Yohan Perera)
