New South Wales Cricket Board (Australia) sack head coach Anthony Stuart, appointing Former Sri Lanka player Chandika Hathurusinghe as the acting head coach.

At a NSW Cricket board meeting on Tuesday night, it was decided that Stuart's contract would not be renewed and the 42-year-old step down from his duties with immediate effect.

Assistant coach and former Sri Lanka Test player Chandika Hathurusinghe will replace Stuart until the end of the current season.

Stuart, who took 70 wickets for NSW and played three one-day internationals for Australia in 1997, was appointed to the role in May last year for two seasons.

The Blues have made a decent start to the Sheffield Shield season to sit in fourth place on the table - just six points behind the leaders - but have won just one of their four one-day cup clashes to sit equal-last.

"Cricket NSW records its thanks to Anthony for his efforts and commitment over the past 18 months. We wish Anthony well in his future endeavours,'' said Cricket NSW CEO David Gilbert in a statement.(AAP)
