Meteorology Department said today intermittent showers or thundershowers could be expected over most parts of the island with heavy falls exceeding 150 mm particularly in the North-Central, North-Western, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces.

Due to low pressure areas located to the south east of Sri Lanka, showery and windy weather would continue over the Eastern, Southeastern and Southern sea areas, it said.

The Department said strong winds strengthening up to 80kmph could be expected in the Eastern, Southeastern and Southern sea areas.
Meanwhile, sluice gates of several reservoirs such as Victoria and Kothmale were opened due to rising of water levels, the DMC said.
