ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year:
Sunil Narine (West Indies): Up-and-coming West Indies bowler Sunil Narine has been named as the Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2012 at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo.
The 24-year-old from Trinidad, follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner and fellow West Indies bowler, Devendra Bishoo, in claiming the award. The off-spinner played in three Tests for the West Indies claiming 12 wickets at an average 31.50, while in the 15 ODIs he played in he claimed 28 wickets at an average of 18.82.
Narine was the top choice of the 32-person voting academy, coming out ahead of Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal, Doug Bracewell of New Zealand and Australia’s James Pattinson.

ICC Associate & Affiliate Cricketer of the Year:
George Dockrell (Ireland): George Dockrell has become the ICC Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo.
The voting academy chose Dockrell ahead of other top Associate and Affiliate players including his team-mates on the short-list Kevin O’Brien, Ed Joyce and Paul Stirling as well as Afghanistan’s Dawlat Zadran. It is the first time Dockrell, who recently captained Ireland at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, has claimed the award.
ICC Twenty20 Performance of the Year:
Richard Levi (South Africa): South Africa batsman Richard Levi has won the ICC Twenty20 International Performance of the Year in recognition of his 51-ball 117 not out against New Zealand.
This is the fifth year the award has been given to recognise the most impressive performance by a player in Twenty20 Internationals during the 12-month voting period and it continues to mark the advent of this exciting format of the game at international level.
On 19 February 2012, during the Proteas’ Twenty20 International match against New Zealand in Hamilton, Levi on his debut tour for South Africa smashed his way to 117 not out with a swashbuckling innings that included five fours and 13 sixes. Levi took just 45 balls to reach his century, making him the current record holder for the fastest century in T20I cricket, ahead of former holder Chris Gayle who managed the feat in 50 balls.
David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year:
Kumara Dharmasena (Sri Lanka): Umpire Kumar Dharmasena has won the David Shepherd Trophy for first time after being named ICC Umpire of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo tonight.
Dharmasena, 41, received the award following the voting by the 10 Test Full Member captains as well as the seven-man Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. The Sri Lankan was judged on his decision statistics and officiating skills during the past 12 months.
It is the first time the Sri Lankan has received the ICC award, which was renamed in 2010 after the late England umpire David Shepherd.
LG People's Choice Award:
Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka): Kumar Sangakkara has won the LG People’s Choice Award for the second year in a row at the LG ICC Awards evening in Colombo.
Sangakkara was voted to the award by the general public and beat off strong competition for the award from South Africa duo Jacques Kallis and Vernon Philander, India’s Sachin Tendulkar and England’s James Anderson.
The award, which was introduced at the 2010 LG ICC Awards in Bengaluru, was chosen by cricket fans around the world who had, in the course of the last four weeks, the opportunity to vote for their favourite player.
ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year:
Virat Kohli (India): India’s Virat Kohli has been named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2012 at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo.
During the performance period, he played 31 ODIs and compiled 1,733 runs at an average of 66.65, including eight centuries and six half-centuries. His highest score, 183, came against Pakistan in the Asia Cup on 18 March 2012.
The independent voting academy of 32 highly credentialed cricket experts put Kohli first, ahead of such talented and in-form players as Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga as well as Kohli’s India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
ICC ODI Women's Cricketer of the Year:
Stefanie Taylor (West Indies): West Indies Stafanie Taylor has been named the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo.
During the voting period Taylor played in 13 ODIs for the West Indies scoring 514 runs at the top of the order at average of 46.72, while the off-spinner also claimed 16 wickets at an average of 13.12.
The young Jamaican took the accolade ahead of fellow West Indies team-mate Anisa Mohammed, England’s Lydia Greenway and Sarah Taylor.
The accolade rounds off a successful year for Taylor, who was part of the West Indies side that was victorious at the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Bangladesh, the side finished undefeated.
ICC Women's T20 Player of the Year:
Sarah Taylor (England): England’s Sarah Taylor has been named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo.
During the voting period Taylor played 10 Twenty20 Internationals for England scoring 340 runs at the top of the order at an average of 48.57, while the wicketkeeper also claimed 11 dismissals, including seven stumpings.
The 23-year-old took the accolade ahead of West Indies Stafanie Taylor and Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Lisa Sthalekar.
ICC Test Cricketer of the Year:
Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka): Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara has been named the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2012 at the LG ICC Awards.
During the performance period, he played 14 Tests and in 27 innings, he compiled 1,444 runs at an average of 60.16, including five centuries and five half-centuries. His highest score of 211 came against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in October 2011, while he also scored 199 not out against the same side on home soil in Galle.
The independent voting academy of 32 highly credentialed cricket experts put Sangakkara first, ahead of an impressive group of players that had been short-listed, including Hashim Amla, Vernon Philander and Australia captain, Michael Clarke.
Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year:
Kumar Sangakkara: Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara has been named ICC Cricketer of the Year 2012 at the LG ICC Awards after an extraordinary 12 months for the batsman.
In 14 Tests, he compiled 1,444 runs at an average of 60.16, including five centuries and five half-centuries. In addition, he played 37 ODIs, hitting 1,457 runs at an average of 42.85, with three centuries and nine half-centuries. In that time he has also proven himself to be the best ODI wicketkeeper in the window under observation with 42 dismissals.
The independent voting academy of 32 highly credentialed cricket experts put Sangakkara first, ahead of a formidable group of players that had been short-listed, including South Africa duo Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander as well as Australia’s Michael Clarke.
