'Jeena' remanded till Jan. 18

The main suspect known as madam “Jeena” who allegedly managed a brothel at a leading shopping complex in Colpetty was ordered to be remanded till January 18 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.
When the case came up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, the main suspect Rosemary Felicia Perera alias Jeena, the sixth suspect in the case was produced in Court by the prison authorities.
Filing a further investigation report in Court the anti-vice-squad of Walana police informed they were conducting investigations regarding the mobile phone of the main suspect. Police further admitted to Court that they had not come to a conclusion regarding the ownership of the concerned house and told investigations were underway regarding a foreign ownership.
Senior Defense counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe PC, Kalinga Indatissa, Deemani Beddewela and Sudarshani Gunaratne appearing on behalf of the suspect said their client could not be named as a suspect in this case due to lack of evidence against her. Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe said his client was not there when the police carried out the raid.
He also said the concerned house had been leased out to a foreigner. Police informed Court that statements had been recorded from two people who had patronized the brothel. Having considered the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the three managers of the telephone service providing companies to provide a detailed report of the suspect’s telephone calls, to the police.
The Magistrate further directed the police to record a statement from the suspect in prison.
The Walana police anti vice squad on December 2, raided the brothel at the leading shopping complex and arrested three local and two foreign women who were later released on bail.
