Jumbos run amok in Kirilogama

A herd of about 30 wild elephants stormed a village in the Kirilogama area in Thalawa, Anuradhapura this morning forcing villagers to flee for safety. Villagers said the elephants that had been roaming in the village for nearly to six hours causing extensive damage to property.

The elephants were eventually chased away with great difficulty by the villagers with the help of the police. Villagers said they had shot into the air and made large noises to chase away the elephants. (Athula Bandara-Anuradhapura)
