UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, who accepted the UNP reformists’ request to take over the leadership of the party, left for India for a private visit this morning, informed sources said.

A spokesman from Mr. Jayasuriya’s office confirmed that he left the country for a personal visit and will be away for four days.

Mr. Jayasuriya, in response to a request by his colleague Sajith Premadasa to accept the party leadership, said yesterday that he (Mr. Jayasuriya) was willing to accept any challenge to take the party forward if it was the fervent wish of a majority of people.
