More than 38 families were forced to leave their village in the Badulla area today due to an impending landslide threat, official sources said.

More than 20 acres of land were affected by landslides at Soranathota in Badulla yesterday, forcing villagers of the Nagolla village in Soranathota to flee the area due to threats to their lives and property.

The displaced villagers were forced to use jungle routes to escape as most of the roads leading to the village were impassable due to landslides and falling rocks.

Although dry weather prevailed in the area the landslide threat is still imminent, officials in the area said.  (Palitha Ariyawansha)
