A man who claimed to have had a romantic relationship with popular Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai had made a complaint with the Colombo Fraud Investigations Bureau, (CFIB) alleging that his nephew had swindled him of Rs.1.7 million.
The complainant Niroshan Devapriya, currently resident in Taiwan, told police that he became mentally unbalanced following the actress’s marriage to Indian actor and film producer Abhishek Bachchan, and decided to file a lawsuit against her, claiming damages for mental distress.
The complainant further stated that he had discussed the matter with his nephew Roshan Ajith of Panadura, who had undertaken to hire a lawyer and go ahead with the lawsuit.
He said his nephew had demanded a sum of Rs.1.7 million for the entire legal process which he had accordingly paid. However, the complainant alleged that the suspect had cheated him of the Rs.1.7 million as he had not taken any steps toward the legal process.
When the suspect was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, he was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500, 000 as he agreed to pay back a sum of Rs. 1 million in monthly installments.
