Law College Principal to relinquish post pending inquiry

The Sri Lanka Law College Principal Dr. W.D. Rodrigo has been asked to relinquish his position on December 31 until which time he would be on leave.

The Council of Legal Education has appointed Nigel Hatch PC as acting principal.

Dr. Rodrigo’s conduct is being probed by the Council, highly placed sources told the Daily Mirror.

The conduct of the Principal had come into severe criticism when the Council of Legal education met in Mid-October, informed sources told the Daily Mirror.

Dr. Rodrigo has been asked to assist the acting principal if and when required, the Daily Mirror learns.

Nigel Hatch PC is an Old Boy of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia.He completed his education at the University of Colombo.

Mr. Hatch was called to the Bar in 1986 and was appointed a President’s Counsel in 2004. He is also the author of a book on the Industrial Disputes Act. He was also the Alternate Representative to the United Nations General Assembly Session in November 2005. He is an eminent lawyer in the spheres of Commerical, Banking and Insurance law.
