Military spokesman Ruwan Wanigasuriya today said foreign terrorist groups and several overseas organisations banned over suspicion that they were LTTE supporters could go to Courts and get their name cleared.

“This is not a proscription. They have been listed as banned organisations. If they want to they can go to Courts under the prevailing law and get themselves cleared by providing evidence against the ban,” he said.

Brigadier Wanigasuriya rejected the allegation that this was a sudden decision said it was taken after a long investigation carried out by several ministries and departments like the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Defence Ministry and the Central Bank.

“This was not done overnight. This was a lengthy process which began in 2008 in collaboration with several institutions,” he said and added that any further action would be taken against these organisations based on gazette notification 1760-40 issued on May 31, 2012.
