A man posing as a Coordinating Secretary of Parliamentarian and President of the Tharunayata Hetak organisation Namal Rajapaksa and cheated several individuals was taken into custody by the Galle police during a propaganda rally to support the UPFA candidates contesting the Galle municipal election.

The meeting was presided over by Parliamentarian Namal Rajapakse. The police said the suspect had obtained money from young men and women on the promise of providing them employment through the Parliamentarian.

During the inquiries police recovered a forged identity card, nine SIM cards, letter heads and application forms used by the suspect.

A senior police official said the 27-year-old suspect was a resident of Badulla and had addressed several propaganda meetings before the arrest and had managed to leave the meetings before Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa arrived.

Inquiries revealed that he had not been to his home town for about two years. A police team was scheduled to leave for Baddula today for further inquiries. (D. G. Sugathapala)
