The Meteorology Department said today heavy falls exceeding 100mm could be expected at some places as the disturbance in the Bay of Bengal has intensified in to a low pressure area and now located to the southeast of Sri Lanka.
The Department issuing a severe weather advisory valid for next 24 hours starting from 6.30 am today said under the influence of the system showery weather and cloudy skies over the country was expected to continue.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurayi to Hmbantota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle would be rough at times as the winds could strengthen up to 60-70 kmph at times.
