Foreign Employment Bureau said today that immediate steps will be taken together with the Ministry of External affairs to recall Sri Lankan immigrant workers South Sudan due to the conflict in there.

Media Spokesman and Deputy General Manager of the Bureau Managala Randeniya said that until further notice, workers will not be sent to Sudan considering the civil conflict in the country.

“We are currently working with the Sri Lankan embassy in Egypt that looks after South Sudan regarding safety of Sri Lankan workers and bring back them to the country.” He said.  

Mr. Randeniya said the bureau has been informed by the Ministry of External Affairs in this regard.

“We request from the family members of the inconvenienced workers to lodge a complaint with the bureau, if they have failed to do so” He added.

According to the Bureau around 75 Sri Lankan immigrant workers are currently in South Sudan.
 
Meanwhile a UN official stated that more than four hundreds of people have been killed in South Sudan's capital since Sunday in the fighting between Dinka loyalists of President Salva Kiir and Nuer supporters of former Vice-President Riek Machar, who was sacked in July and is accused by the government of trying to seize power.

Clashes erupted in Juba, the capital of the oil-rich state, and have since spread to more than a dozen separate parts of the south Sudan. The UN estimates 35,000 civilians in six of the country's 10 states are sheltering at UN bases.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
