The residents in Sidharthapura said that some police officers from the Wellawatta police had visited them recently and had informed them that their houses were unauthorized constructions and would be demolished shortly.
Residents have been assured that they would be given land outside Colombo and according to residents one or two families have already been given land in Awissawella. The residents said the visiting police officers had asked for all the details including assessment numbers of their houses.
When contacted the Wellawatte police, they said they did conduct a survey to determine as to how many unauthorized houses were there in the area.
A spokesman from the police said they did it, following the orders of the head quarters and a report has already been submitted to the head quarters. The police assured that only the unauthorized structures would be demolished.
