President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane to submit a report on the controversy surrounding the GCE (Advanced Level) question paper on Economics, and related matters, to Cabinet, Daily Mirror learns.

Consequently, Mr. Gunawardane has, in turn instructed the Commissioner General of Examinations Jayantha Pushpakumara to compile a report detailing the reasons for the removal of Professor Dany Attapattu and the panel that had set the question paper during the last 11 years and their replacement with a new panel.

He has also asked the Commissioner General to answer queries raised by several teacher trade unions regarding the errors in the question paper given this time.

Mr. Gunawardane told Daily Mirror that there were allegations that Prof. Attapattu had copied from the London Advanced Level Examination papers when setting the question paper on previous occasions.

“This is a serious allegation and needs to be looked into. I will get a report from the Commissioner General and submit it to Cabinet. The President asked me to do it,” he said.(Kelum Bandara)
