MSD police inspector interdicted

A Police Inspector attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) of a deputy minister was interdicted following a charge that he had attempted to extort money from a businesswoman by threatening her.

The suspect had given loans amounting to Rs. 7 million to the businesswoman who is from Kelaniya. She had later allegedly given him more than Rs 0.01 billion as repayment of the loan with interest; but the police inspector had attempted to obtain more money from her by filling up the blank papers which she had signed when taking the loans from him.

The inspector had got the assistance of five police stations to threaten her and attempt to get more money from her.

The suspect had forced the business woman to start a relationship with him, if she was unable to give him money.

It had been revealed that he had filed cases on false charges against the woman in order to keep her and her two children in the country.  The husband of the woman is working as a police officer in the United States. (LSP)
