A poser, who had pressurised the Air Force Commander on the phone claiming to be President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, was ordered to be remanded today after being arrested by the police.

The suspect had given a telephone call to the Air Force Commander posing as MP Namal Rajapaksa and said in a threatening tone to cancel a transfer of a high ranking Air Force official.

Colombo Additional Magistrate P. Ranasinghe today ordered that the suspect be remanded till April 18 after being arrested by the Colombo Crime Division on April 1 from the Dematagoda area after tracking down the SIM card of the suspect’s mobile phone.

That had made the Air Force Commander suspicious about the person who called, and then had called MP Rajapaksa to clear his doubts. When MP Rajapaksa had confirmed that he never called the Air Force Commander, he had contacted the Police to pursue action. (Dasun Rajapaksa)
