The government has accepted as a policy that the age limit of service for public servants as 60 years and there will be no extensions after that, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister John Seneviratne said today.

Addressing a news briefing at his ministry, Minister Seneviratne said earlier the public servants should have retired at the age of 55 and apply for extension of service annually for another two or three years.

“The policy of the government hereafter would be that public servants are eligible to serve until the age of 57 and can apply for annual extensions up to 60. There will be no extensions after that,” he added.

However, this policy will not apply to Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court judges and Magistrates. Age limit of retirement for them would be 65, 63 and 61 years respectively. (SAJ)
