Internally Displaced People (IDP) of Manik Farm in Vavuniya waiting to travel to Jaffna to cast their votes this morning could not go to cast their vote since the buses deployed on the route had mysteriously gone missing, JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Daily Mirror online.

“The government’s plan is to prevent the voters from casting their vote,” Herath claimed. According to him these IDP’s had been assured transportl by the government and they had been ready and waiting for the buses only to be disappointed.

MP Herath was on his way to Manik Farm when he was detained by the police at a check point. He said that he was on his way to address the voter grievances and solve the transportation issue.

Meanwhile the Centre for Election Monitoring (CMEV) Spokesperson Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu said that there was an attempt to disrupt free and fair polls in the North. “There is some kind of organized attempt to disrupt the polls in the North to ensure a low voter turnout,” he said.
