Film and tele drama actress Damitha Abeyratne has demanded Rs. 100 million as damages from popular actress Semini Iddamalgoda for allegedly defaming her.

Ms Abeyratne made this claim through her lawyer when the case filed by Ms. Iddamalgoda claiming Rs. 500 million as damages from Ms Abeyratne for allegedly defaming her, was taken up at the Colombo District Court today.

She also alleged that she never gave information to any websites as mentioned by Ms. Iddamalgoda and said if such information was leaked to those websites, Ms. Iddamalgoda should take legal action against those websites and not against her.

Ms. Abeyratne also charged that Ms. Iddamalgoda had provided information to websites about her and tried to defame her. Therefore Ms. Abeyratne said she was demanding Rs. 100 million from Ms. Iddamalgoda.

Earlier, Ms. Iddamalgoda filed action before the Colombo District Court against Ms. Abeyratne for allegedly insulting the petitioner during an FM radio interview.

The petitioner alleged that during the interview aired on January 13, 2013, Ms. Abeyratne used offensive remarks concerning the reputation and character of the petitioner.(Buddhimal Ruberu)
