Pakistan volleyball game suicide blast kills at least 70

At least 70 people were killed and scores of others suffered injuries as a suicide bomber riding a car detonated explosives in a Pakistani football ground in Shah Hassan Khel area of Lakki Marwat this evening. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the attack and ordered investigations into the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, locals of the area were playing volleyball as a suicide attacker rammed explosives laden car into the wall of the ground. Rescue teams rushed to the blast site and started rescue activities.

Hospital officials told that some of the injured were in critical condition and might have to be shifted to hospitals in Peshawar. Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident.

According to local sources, the ‘Qaumi Lashkar’ active against Taliban in Shah Hassan Khel was the target of the suicide attack. The bomber targeted the ground adjacent to the house of Malik Mushtaq – member of peace committee.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said terrorists can’t weaken nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism by cowardly acts. He directed the NWFP government to heed treatment of the injured in the blast. (Pakistan News)
