Peons of president’s office further remanded

Two peons attached to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s private secretary’s office who were allegedly involved in pilfering stationery and computer toners from the stores of Temple Trees were further remanded till November 30 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.

In this case, the CID alleged that the suspects who had been working in the office of the president’s private secretary, had altered the requisition forms in a bid to obtain additional stationery and computer toners from the stores at Temple Trees. The CID further alleged that the items pilfered from the stores had been sold to a businessman at Lotus Road in Colombo 1, an offence punishable under the Public Property Act. Filing a further investigation report in court, the CID said that the suspects had also sold four computer toners to the third suspect, a businessman.

The businessman who had allegedly bought the pilfered computer toners from the two peons was released on bail at the previous magisterial inquiry. (By Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
