The islandwide railway strike, which was scheduled from midnight today has been suspended as the authorities agreed to rectify the salary anomalies within two days, Trade unions said.

Railways Joint Trade Union Convener Janaka Fernando told Daily Mirror online that they had decided to suspend the strike action till Tuesday following a meeting between eleven trade unions representatives and Transport Ministry Secretary Dhammika Perera.

“President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga informed through Mr. Perera that the salary anomalies would be rectified and asked us to call off the strike. So considering that assurance, we decided to suspend it,” Fernando said.
