The two Police officers who were on guard duty at the Gampaha residence of a ruling party WPC member had been transferred to the Hanwella and the Gampaha Police stations, sources said.

The transfers were effected on the instructions of IGP N.W. Illangakoon.

The officers had complained that they were compelled to attend to the house-hold chores of the Councillor and even to look after cattle.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Councillor had been informed to request security from the military.

The Police Spokesman said last morning that formal investigations were underway.

The two constables deployed to provide security for the UPFA female member of the WPC wrote in their complaint that they were asked to do gardening, work in farms and paddy fields belonging to the politician and numerous other domestic chores including cooking and washing utensils.

They have said that they were frustrated and embarrassed as they were compelled to attend to such work instead of performing their official duty of providing security.

In addition they complained that they were even asked to work while off-duty and the politician did not avail their services when she was travelling on official purposes.

They were instead left behind at her home to attend to household work.

She had also threatened to complain to the IGP against the PCs if they refused to carry out her orders.(Siri Mahabellana)
