The police were today ordered to arrest the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man who had visited the PNB office on October 30 to sign the case book.

When the inquiry into the death of Mohammed Sathak Mohammed Fahim of Maligawatta was taken up by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, she observed that the Court was not satisfied with the investigations carried out so far by the Fort police in tracing the suspects.

The Magistrate directed the police to hand over the investigation extracts to the Colombo Central ASP and hand over the probe to another police team.

Counsel Rasika Weeratunga and Nipuna Wimalasekara appearing on behalf of the aggrieved party complained to court that police had failed to trace any suspect even 32 days after the victim died at the PNB office.

The Magistrate ruled there was reasonable suspicion that a crime had been committed and the police was ordered to conduct further investigations and arrest all those involved in the incident. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
