Power cuts are likely to occur in several parts of the country because the Norochcholai, Kelanitissa, Rantambe and Randenigala power stations were malfunctioning, official sources said.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Power and Energy told Daily Mirror online that even at present the Rantambe and Randenigala power stations were not functioning while the Norochcholai and the Kelnitissa power stations were not working to their full capacity as a result of technical hitches.

He said two Indian technicians were attending to the repairs at the Norochcholai coal power plant.

However, Chairman of the Ceylon electricity Board (CEB) W.B. Ganegala said there would be no such power cuts in the country.
