Prince Kolom’s wife and sister remanded for demanding ransom

The wife and the elder sister of notorious under world gangster Prince Kolom who was killed under mysterious circumstances were remanded till January 12 for allegedly demanding ransom from a Hotel owner of Kotahena.

The Kotahena Police produced the elder sister of Prince Kolom H .A,Janitha Sandya Kumari, his wife M.W.Sithy Rahima and  K.S.Thushara Perera before Colombo Additional Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara and submitted that a  hotel owner of Kotahena had complained to the police that he was  the owner of MNS Hotel at Bleumendhal Road and on December 26 two persons who came in a motor bike  pointing a gun on him  asked him to give Rs.100,000 to the wife of Prince Kolom,  otherwise  he will be harmed, the Police said. 

Accordingly on December 27 when the  three suspects had come to the Hotel  to collect the ransom and the Police personnel of the Bleumendhal Police Post arrested them and handed over them to Kotahena Police.
 
The Police told the Magistrate that the hotel owner Nagaiya Sasikan had taken the premises to run the hotel from Prince Kolom for a Paying Rs.500 daily. After the killing of Prince Kolom he had paid the money to Prince Kolom’s sister regularly.
 
Later the money was paid to one Chaminda on the instructions of Prince Kolom’s sister. Thereafter since Chaminda did not come to collect the money for about one year.
 
The Police said on December 26 two persons who came in the motor bike had demanded money and had  threatened the hotel owner to give that money to Prince Kolom’s sister Janitha Sandya Kumari.
 
The Police moved to remand the suspects as they had to arrest two other suspects and further said that the investigations had revealed that the suspects had used weapons and had threatened the complainant. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
