The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) today said that they have requested a meeting with the Transport Ministry to discuss the option of making one lane available in the one-way Galle Road stretch, for public transport in and out of Colombo.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Gemunu Wijeratne the President of the LPBOA said that due to the prevailing one-way plan along the Galle Road passengers were greatly inconvenienced and had to travel almost a kilometre to find a bus halt, whereas a commuter should be able to find a bus halt after walking 400 metres.

He added that in the world, public transportation was given priority and likewise they request one lane on the now one-way stretch of the Galle Road for public transportation.

According to the prevalent traffic plan in Colombo, all traffic travelling toward Colombo can use the Galle Road as a one-way road from Dickmans Road in Bambalapitiya, while vehicles including public transport that are heading out from Colombo can use Duplication Road as a one-way road till Dickmans Road.
