A new constitution or an amendment to the Constitution should always put forward to the public before making it final, the United National Party said today.
Speaking at an event held to explain the UNP’s proposed Constitution to its organisers, MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe said the Government planned Amendments in the 13th Amendment should also be finalised according to the people’s opinion.
At the event UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said the UNP draft constitution would safeguard the sovereignty of people and would add value to the public votes.
He also said the UNP would cancel the Preferential voting system and replace it with a mixed system when it comes to office.
