Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said today investigations into the killing of Laalitha Kaushalya alias Kudu Laalitha had revealed that he had owned property including houses and vehicles worth Rs.68.5 million in several areas.
“Laalitha owned two houses worth Rs.7.5 and Rs.25 million in Kaduwela and another worth Rs.20 million in Malabe and a block of land worth Rs.3 million in Avissavella. He also owned two hybrid cars and a Vitz car worth Rs.13 million,” SSP Rohana said.
He said investigations were being carried out to confirm whether these assets had been earned by dealing in drugs and if so steps would be taken to confiscate them.
“It is illegal to earn money or property through illegal means such as drug dealing and under the provisions of the money laundering act. Such property can be confiscated on a court order. This property will also be confiscated, if it is revealed that he had obtained them from the money earned through drug dealing,’ SSP Rohana said.
Laalitha Kaushalya alias Kudu Laalitha was shot dead on September 5 when he attempted to escape from Police Narcotic Bureau personnel during a raid in Athurugiriya.
