Railway strike continuing

The Railway Strike launched by members of the Locomotive Drivers Union and the Sri Lanka Railway Technical Trade Union yesterday is continuing resulting in several train services being cancelled, the Railway Department said.

Railways Superintendent L.A.R. Ratnayake said train services may be interrupted today as well even though several trains were operating with the assistance of engine drivers who had reported for duty.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Railway Technical Trade Union Secretary B.S. Kamal Peiris said they were continuing the strike which was launched over the removal of Railway Drivers Union President from the post of supervisor at the Transport Ministry.(Ajith Siriwardana)
