Railway unions today announced they would launch a 48 hour strike countrywide from midnight April 28 (Sunday) in protest over the authorities’ continued failure to rectify the salary anomalies of railway employees
The Railway Employees Trade Union Alliance said all station masters, engine drivers, engineers, railway controllers, train guards and foremen would stop work from Sunday night.
The Alliance spokesman Janaka Fernando said talks with the government had not been successful and that during a railway employees meeting this morning a decision was taken to go ahead with the planned trade union action.
