United National Party (UNP) Ratnapura District parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake is expected to be the party’s chief ministerial candidate at the elections to the Western Provincial Council and would contest from the Gampaha District.
A UNP Leadership Council member who wished to remain anonymous confirmed Mr. Ramanayake’s candidature and added that the nominations would be finalised by Monday.
When contacted by Daily Mirror, Mr. Ramanayake did not rule out the possibility of contesting the elections as the chief ministerial candidate.
The nomination board met on Thursday and Friday with final session on Monday.
Though it was earlier reported that UNP Kalutara District MP Palitha Thewarapperuma would also contest the elections he had decided not to do so.
