Ratwatte bribery case set aside

The Colombo High Court today set aside the case filed by the Bribery Commission against the former Defence Minister Anuruddha Ratwatte for not declaring the mode of earning of his assets.

At the outset of the inquiry counsel Wasantha Batagoda filed the death certificate of Mr. Anuruddha Ratwatte in court and submitted that  Anuruddha Ratwatte had succumbed to injuries caused to his brain as a result of an accident.

On perusing the death certificate and considering the counsel’s submission High Court Judge Sunil Rajapakse set aside the case and ordered the counsel to make a request by way of a motion for the release of the productions of the case.

Late Anurudhha Ratwatte was indicted before the Colombo High Court for failing to show how he earned his assets and income to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption during open investigation conducted by the Commission. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
