Doctors had advised to keep jailed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in acleanroom because exposure to dust and polluted air was bad for his lung condition, MP Jayantha Ketagoda said today.
Mr. Ketagoda who is a member of Mr. Fonseka’s Democratic National Alliance (DNA) said that the former Army Commander was subjected to a medical test at a private hospital in Colombo on Sunday.
“According to doctors, Mr. Fonseka’s lung condition has not improved. Therefore, he has to be kept in a special room free from germs and bacteria. Dust is extremely bad for his health,” Mr. Ketagoda said.
Mr. Fonseka’s lungs were affected by a suicide bomb attack on his life in April, 2006. Since then, he has been under regular medication.
There are still shrapnel lodged in his body, doctors said.
