Shoot out in Maharagma

A robber was killed and another was arrested while the search is on for one more suspect, after a shoot out occurred in Maharagma between the police and a three member robber gang who tried to rob a pawn shop around 9.15am today, police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.
Police personnel in civil clothes were stationed around the jewelry store after information was received regarding an impending robbery to the police.
A shoot out erupted between the three suspects who arrived in a motorcycle and the police after the suspects tried to rob the shop. One suspect died after being admitted to the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital for his injuries. The suspect who died was shot by the police personnel after he tried to kill the owner of the jewelry pawn shop.
Several weapons were also recovered by the police from the two suspects while a special operation is underway to arrest the suspect who escaped. The Maharagma and Nugegoda police are conducting further investigations, SP Prishantha Jayakody said.
