Shooting incident in Delgoda

Two persons including a police constable were seriously injured when an unidentified gang opened fire at a group of UNP supporters who were canvassing in the Ihalabiyanwila-Mavaramandiya junction in Delgoda, early morning today.
The policeman was injured while he was inside the police jeep that was on a routine patrol at the time of the incident.
The suspects had arrived in a white defender from the Delgoda area and according to eyewitnesses it had fled to the Makola area immediately after opening fire at the supporters and the police jeep.
According to Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha UNP candidate Amila Ruwan, they had asked for police protection as they were preparing and canvassing as a meeting is to be attended by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today.
The Kadawatha police stated that the constable and the other injured person were currently receiving treatment at the Ragama General Hospital and no suspects have been arrested so far.
The Kadawatha police have deployed two special teams to arrest the suspects.
