President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said that songs disgracing the country could help those who want to divide the motherland.

“I have heard a song which says ‘May Rate minissu thanikara kellinne pissu’ but the songs composed in the days gone by said ‘loken Uthum rata Lankawai’, such patriotic songs have served a great deal in our fight for the freedom of the country. Please remember songs disgracing the country could help those who want to divide the motherland,” the President said.

He made this comment at the 162nd Prize giving Ceremony of the Royal College, held at the College last Tuesday.

The President also told school children gathered, “Your way of thinking has a tremendous impact upon the country. Similarly what you write or what you speak also affects the county. Today your country is inconvenienced a lot, due to false rumors. Only you can stop such rumors.” (Daily Mirror online)
