Suspect commits suicide

A suspect who was arrested after being wanted for eight robberies in the Kottawa area reportedly committed suicide while being in police custody, police spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.

He added that the suspect was arrested yesterday by the police after being wanted for eight robberies that occurred in the Kottawa area. The suspect had earlier served an eight year prison sentence for ten robberies he committed.

The suspect had committed suicide by using his clothes to hang himself. The police had discovered him this morning and taken him to the Homagama hospital where he was pronounced dead. A Magisterial inquiry is being conducted. (Supun Dias)
