Three members of a family were killed and three injured after one family member set fire to a house in Kataragama last night, police said.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect who owned the house, had initially stabbed his wife, three-year-old daughter, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law and set fire to the house after the victims were locked up inside the house.

Later the suspect had also jumped into the fire. Police said the suspect, his wife and mother-in-law died due to burn injuries while the others were admitted to the Kataragama hospital with stab injuries.

The three-year-old daughter who was receiving treatment at the hospital was succumbed to her injuries, police said.
