A meeting of senior TMVP members ended in stalemate a short while ago with the party unable to reach a consensus if to contest the upcoming general elections independently or with the ruling UPFA government.
TMVP sources said that the party had ultimately decided to meet with senior government officials on Wednesday after which an announcement will be made on how the TMVP will contest at the polls.
It is understood that while most TMVP members were of the view that the party should contest independently, there were those who said the TMVP should contest the polls with the government at least in some districts in the eastern province.
With the TMVP unable to reach a final consensus the TMVP leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan decided that a meeting will be held with the government on Wednesday where the stand of the party will be notified.
The TMVP is also of the view that the final decision of the party should not create a rift with the ruling UPFA government and it is with that in mind that TMVP officials will meet with the government before making a formal announcement on their stand regarding the elections, TMVP sources added.
