Train strike called off

The train strike launched by engine drivers from mid noon today was called off at 4.00 pm after Transport Minister Kumara Welgama promised to suspend the engine driver who drove a train without an engine guard.

Sources said that despite the union taking action against station masters and guards, they had not taken action against engine drivers.

Trains operating island wide stalled by 12 noon today to participate in the strike and it would continue till the Minister took the necessary steps. (SAJ)
