The government wants to discourage the media reporting on student rights issues and control media that are not heeding to their wishes whilst blaming it on university students, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Daily Mirror online

JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake was responding to a statement made by Cabinet spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella regarding the police attack on journalists when they were covering the violence by university students at the Higher Education Ministry premises recently.

Minster Keheliya Rambukwella stated that these unfortunate incidents will continue as long as students behave unlawfully.

The government has two motives in attacking the journalist covering the student issues. First they want to discourage the media from covering these peaceful protests and brining forward student issues and secondly they want to take action against those media that is not heading to their wishes whilst blaming it on the University students, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said

This is an indirect threat to the media of our country and the JVP condemns these acts of violence and threats against the media, he said. (Daily Mirror online)
