Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) Deputy General Manager Mangala Randeniya said the FEB was notified by UAE officials prior to the execution of 19-year-old Sri Lankan Ravinda Krishna Pillai, who was convicted of murder.
Arabian media has confirmed that Mr. Pillai who works as an electrician was executed in the UAE yesterday after he was found guilty of the murder of an Emirati resident.
“Although the Bureau was informed about the execution, the UAE officials did not tell us when or how it was being carried out,” he said and added that Mr. Pillai’s mother and sister travelled to the UAE at Bureau expense to visit him before his execution.
He is believed to have been executed by a firing squad on Tuesday morning in Sharjah.
Ravinda Krishna Pillai was a resident of the Chenkaladi and was charge and convicted of premeditated murder by purposely running over an Emirati in an SUV during an argument between the two.
